While owning a car wash can be a profitable and rewarding business, it can also be a dangerous one for both your employees and your customers. Make sure you constantly keep customer safety at the front of your mind by implementing these simple precautions.

Have visible and concise signage

As customers are driving up, you want to make sure you have proper signage that details where they need to go along with where and what direction other vehicles are going to be coming from. These signs should be easy to read, easy to understand, visible at all times of day, and located at the entrance and exit of your car wash.

Utilize clear hand signals

As part of your employee training, you'll want to implement and teach common hand signals that every employee should use when alerting and directing customers. Not only will these signals let other employees know what is happening around the wash, but because every employee uses the same ones it will help prevent customer confusion as they move around your property.

Add stop and go lights

Every driver should be able to easily recognize and understand standard red and green lighting. Introduce these unmistakable symbols into the beginning and end of your wash to help easily control the flow of traffic, without having to put your employees in potential danger.

Set cones where you need them

If you have a wash where customers leave their vehicles, you'll want to be sure that you place cones to help direct them where they need to walk. Doing this will both keep them out of harm's way as well as keep them from wandering into areas that are "employee only."

Secure your chemicals

With all the harsh chemicals a car wash uses on a daily basis, it's important that you dedicate a secure storage area where only trained employees can get to them. This could be behind a locked door that needs a key or code to open it.

Keep your property clean

The last thing you want is for a customer to trip on a piece of debris or trash and severely hurt themselves. Be sure that your property is always picked up, and any hazards are moved safely out of the way.

Walk through your property

As a business owner, you're only human and it's possible that you might miss things. This is why it's important that you periodically walk through your car wash property and take a look at everything with fresh eyes. You might notice an area that can use better signage or direction that you didn't see before.

These are just a few ways to help improve safety around your car wash. Don't wait until it's too late to start taking advantage of these tips and adding them to your business. Not sure where to find the products mentioned above? Take a look at our extensive catalog!
